Is Kalonzo Ready to Deputize Sifuna? Wiper Gives Crucial Clarification

The Wiper Patriotic Front has moved to clarify remarks by its party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, after comments he made about the possibility of working with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna ahead of the 2027 General Election sparked fresh speculation over the opposition’s presidential ticket.

Wiper spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru said Monday that Kalonzo had not agreed to become Sifuna’s running mate, contrary to interpretations that emerged following the former Vice-President’s television interview.

According to Njiru, Kalonzo’s position was simply that he would support whoever is ultimately chosen as the presidential candidate of the Alternative United Government, the emerging opposition political formation.

“Our party leader, just like the other principals, merely acknowledged that he will support whoever is nominated,” Njiru said, insisting that the remarks should not be interpreted as an agreement to take the deputy presidential position.

The clarification comes at a time when opposition parties and leaders are increasingly engaging in discussions on how to build a united political front capable of challenging President William Ruto in 2027.

Kalonzo’s comments had attracted attention after he was asked about the possibility of supporting Sifuna.
