Kenyan Lady Who Paid Her Dowry Gets Dumped by Hubby a Week After Wedding

A Kenyan woman has shared a cautionary story on TikTok about paying for her own dowry and organising her entire wedding, urging other women not to repeat her mistake.

She said she was living in South Africa when she met her ex-husband, but chose to marry in her Kenyan hometown due to her cultural background.

To prepare, she travelled home and personally handled relatives, committees and the usual marriage procedures herself.

She convinced her family's wedding committee to waive the traditional dowry, citing her late grandmother's wish that her daughters never be "sold" through dowry payments.

She even brought in a witness to confirm the claim.

However, the groom was still expected to make customary contributions such as food and symbolic payments.

Since he had no relatives in Kenya, she hired a family and asked friends to pose as his relatives during the ceremonies.

Those friends contributed money and stood in on his behalf, but she ended up funding almost everything herself.
